Personality:
Ritsuka has quite a complex personality. He was once a cheerful child, but everything changed two years ago, after his brother’s death. After this point in his life, his personality develops greatly.

Ritsuka is a person who doesn’t like to talk much, especially to strangers. He’s used to being on his own, keeping his distance, even though people try to be friends with him (because he’s cute, no doubt about that). He always rejects them rudely, which caused his first friend, Yuiko, to cry. However, when he begins seeing his therapist, his personality turns back to his old self. He’s more cheerful and talkative, like an ordinary kid. It’s probably thanks to the therapist, who came to know him well.

Still, it’s quite hard to be friends with him unless someone triggers his interest. Take Soubi for example: he’s the first stranger and ‘adult’ that spoke to him in front of the school. When Soubi mentioned Ritsuka’s brother’s name, Seimei, Ritsuka jumped in excitement and automatically considered him a friend. How’s that for simple?

His best subject in school is math. He can get perfect scores in this subject. On the other hand, he’s not good with art. However, he’s always enjoyed taking pictures, even before he transferred to the new school. Taking pictures is both a hobby and a way to keep 'memories'. He collects them, stores them into his computer, and even makes backups. There’s also few pictures collected in his room so he’ll never forget them, as he’s afraid to lose his ‘old self’.

Aside from his school and relationships, he also has to deal with his abusive mother. No matter how hard she hits him, he doesn’t fight back. He thinks it’s partly his fault because he isn’t the same person he used to be two years ago (like his mother wants). If he does things wrong again, she will start hitting him, enough to make him stick bandages on his face and body. Still, he loves his mother no matter what, and believes this will bring them closer.

Ritsuka is also a pacifist. He won’t hit anyone even when he’s pissed. He doesn’t mind the abuse from his mother, but doesn’t want to do the same to the others. There’s a part of him that is kind-hearted. Sometimes, when someone close to him gets hurt, he blames himself (for being late, or not paying attention to them). If people are fighting, he will try to break it up at any cost. At one point, when Soubi was trying to kill their enemy, Ritsuka ordered him to stop and let them go. He believes killing people won’t change anything. It isn’t his style at all.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:
Ritsuka has endurance, and is extremely independent for a child at his age. He may not be physically strong due to his youth, but he can deal with one or two blows. Or getting hit by glass bottle, or being drowned. Name one. He won't complain, at least if it’s from his mother. Obviously, just by looking at him, Ritsuka is an adorable child. Anyone would admit that. When Ritsuka was transferred into his new school, no one could take their eyes away from him. Even his teacher and therapist.

Ritsuka is more cautious than careless, because he’s an independent boy. To him, not all of the people around him are safe, unless he can trust someone. Knowledge-wise, he is an ace at math. He can get a perfect score in this subject, and possibly be a math-genius when he goes to high school. Ritsuka can cook something basic for morning breakfast. If he isn’t able to, he goes for McDonalds. He goes there a lot after school.

Weaknesses:
Ritsuka is just your average kid. He has cat ears and a tail (although he doesn’t have them anymore in the Pokemon world), but that doesn’t make him very different from other ordinary kids. Ritsuka might also be rude to new people due to the incident from two years ago (which caused him to be less friendly and lacking in friends). It takes awhile for him to trust someone. His rudeness also appears when his friends are threatened; when this happened to one of his friends, he snapped and told the offender to die.

Another thing about Ritsuka is whenever someone mentions Seimei, he’s extremely alert. Not because he hates that name, but because he loves his brother so much. Seimei is everything to him. He is his hero, savior, protector, everything. In the future, Ritsuka wants to be exactly like Seimei. If people threaten Seimei, Ritsuka will protest and threaten them back. Behind his nickname, 'Loveless', Ritsuka lacks love and doesn’t know how to confront this feeling. Even though Soubi stole his first kiss, it has only made things more confusing for him.
